STEERING HEAD FOUL

On my Trike when you turn the steering from one side full travel to the other it should contact the stops on the steering head, mine did not it fouled the tank front attachments studs and nuts first.

The easy fix for this is to grind off the bit of the steering head that fouls the tank studs and nuts both sides, the steering head is an inch thick so it can take a bit of being ground off.

STEERING HEAD BEARINGS

The other steering item that needed attention on my Trike was the steering head bearings.

I noticed a small clicking noise when moving from the steering from one side to another.

I stripped down the steering head and as it came apart all the ball bearings dropped out, the complete bottom steering head bearing was rusted to the point of disintegrating, the bearing assemblies are the same you would find in the crank of a push bike.

It appears that good replacement bearings are the same ones fitted to Honda’s, I got mine from a bearing supplier in Aldershot his contact no is…………… he also supplied grease retainers something the Lifan Trike had not seen before.

Beware! The top and bottom bearings have a different inside diameter, the outer diameter is the same on both.
